The Organization:

The Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment is California’s largest organization of grassroots community members taking collective action to fight for affordable housing, excellent public services, thriving communities, and good jobs. As an organization that operates locally and statewide, we believe in the power of communities to change their own realities and lift up the voices and ideas of those directly impacted by the decisions made in the halls of power be they corporate boardrooms or legislative chambers.

 

ACCE organizes in low and moderate-income communities of color and focuses on the following elements of empowerment:

-Base building in marginalized communities

-Developing democratic community based organizational structures to ensure inclusive and representative decision-making

-Deep leadership development for affected community residents

-Sophisticated political education and analysis (to inform campaign strategy) on pressing issues including housing and gentrification, equitable development and infrastructure investment, health care, education, progressive revenue generation, and worker rights/benefits.

-Strong corporate and policy campaign fights with an emphasis on reshaping the relationship between corporations & the finance sector and communities/ institutions/ municipalities.

-Integrated Civic Engagement programs that connect issues to voters on and off election cycles.

-Strategic relationships at the local and statewide level that leverage the strengths of partners to win more impactful and broad community solutions.

 

We focus on understanding the intersections between the ECONOMIC and RACIAL implications of social issues and center our fights on those most deeply impacted.

 

The Position:

We are seeking a seasoned organizer and campaigner to run our San Diego office. The core responsibility of an ACCE Director is to work with a team of staff and community leaders to create a broad vision for building power and winning structural reforms that foster dignity, equity, inclusion, strong public services, and truly democratic representation. Drawing from that vision, ACCE Directors facilitate an assessment of local and statewide community needs, implement strategic plans focused on sustainability and delivering wins for our constituents, and build on campaign successes to enhance the visibility and development opportunities of the organization.

 


Key Qualifications –

REQUIRED

  • Significant responsibility in large scale campaigns (city level or larger), including a demonstrated understanding of power relationships, ability to develop strategic plans, subsequent implementation, and ongoing evaluation.
  • Relevant experience in raising and managing project or program budgets
  • Experience working with coalitions
  • A commitment to social justice and grassroots leadership

RECOMMENDED

  • 5 years of experience managing a team in an organizing program or project
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office, and data management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others and apply problem solving skills

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Recruiting, managing, and developing staff
  • Working with the executive and development/operations staff to raise and manage the office budget
  • Development of a strategic plan in consultation with local office staff and members
  • Implementing and managing programs and campaigns
  • Accountable to Member Leadership committee through a regular goal setting and evaluation process
  • Developing relationships with organizations working within prioritized issue areas.

Wages and Benefits:

Salary commensurate with experience and increases with each additional year of relevant organizing experience. ACCE has a generous benefits package that includes fully covered health care, dental, and life insurance, as well as flex spending accounts, a 401K employer match, and PTO. ACCE uses a progressive salary scale that is based on responsibility level and years of relevant experience. The pay range for a director is $67,878 - $96,385
